Healthy Insights Podcast – Kyoko Crawford

Did you know that Skin cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer in the US – and statistically, 1 in 5 people will develop skin cancer by the age of 70? Yet our skin – the largest and most visible organ in our body – is in many ways overlooked.  Kyoko Crawford, digital health entrepreneur and CEO of SkinIO, joins us to discuss the startling prevalence of skin cancer, the shortage of dermatologists, and how SkinIO is solving these issues.

Kyoko Crawford is the CEO if SkinIO and was recently named to Crain’s Chicago’s 40 under 40. Her degree in Biomedical Engineering from Harvard University allowed her to explore the overlap of business entrepreneurship and biotech – and today she applies this to develop innovative health solutions.

Kyoko explains how SkinIO uses the cameras on our smartphones to digitally catalogue and track our skin and thus detect skin cancer early. She shares how applying clinical approaches beyond the office equips patients to track their skin at home. Learn about the personal and impactful reasons behind the founding of SkinIO, and how the kernel of the idea was founded on real clinical experience.

Finally, host Jim Narum and Kyoko chat about work-life balance, and the hard but gratifying nature of being an entrepreneur. And we discover a wine reviewing Instagram famous dog!
