Healthy Insights Podcast – Patty Riskind

Patty Riskind’s dad once stated, “The worst thing they can do is fire you and if they do, you’ll find something better suited.” Patty says this is the best advice she’s received, and it has inspired her to take risks. Many entrepreneurs have a fairly high risk tolerance and Patty has always had that entrepreneurial spirit. She’s very passionate, has a lot of energy and tends to throw herself into things. “We work all the time, so it’s got to be fun and energizing,” says Patty.

Patty Riskind is the CEO of Orbita, a conversational AI company that offers solutions for healthcare and life science organizations that advance patient engagement, increase clinical efficiency, and improve outcomes. Her previous experience includes Head of Global Healthcare at Qualtrics, COO for Health Scholars, Chief Client Experience Officer at Press Ganey Associates along with various other entrepreneurial leadership roles. Patty received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at Brown University and her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

In this episode, host Jim Narum talks with Patty about her role with Orbita and how they use AI technology to fill in the gaps of communication so that users can easily navigate the healthcare system. Interacting and communicating with various systems can be clunky at times, and COVID-19 has exposed how much healthcare systems were behind the times. At the same time, it also exposed how quickly healthcare can adapt with things such as telehealth. Patty says that it’s all about simplifying the common tasks.

Jim and Patty also discuss various lessons that she’s learned throughout her career. In each role Patty has been in, she has always tried to understand how the individual parts make up the whole. And her biggest lessen learned is that it’s so important to listen to and understand the customer/employees’ perception of what’s working and what isn’t.
