Chuck Gillespie, CEO of the National Wellness Institute, joins host Jim Narum and co-host Charlie Estey on this week’s episode of Healthy Insights Podcast. During this episode you’ll hear about the latest industry trends, how one size DOES NOT fit all when it comes to wellness, and discover what you can learn from some of the world’s best athletes when it comes to wellness.  

Chuck’s work in the wellness industry has been recognized and utilized nationally and internationally. Over the last 20 years, Chuck has developed numerous workplace and community initiatives, as well as evaluated and consulted with hundreds of organizations on wellness strategies. Chuck has been recognized as a Friend of Wellness by Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology and as a Beacon Community Champion. He was also presented with the Hulman Health Achievement Award in 2016 and accepted the Health 10 award for the development of the Indiana Healthy Community Initiative from the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation in 2017.

Listen in as Chuck talks about the evolution of his career and how his sister helped guide the way to his start in wellness. The group also gets into a detailed discussion of the wellness competency model and the importance of communication and connection in a wellness program. Chuck also jokes that it’s beneficial to rob and duplicate, but more seriously, that he does truly suggest carrying on great initiatives and ideas that you learn from others. Chuck also defines the term “High Level Wellness” which he describes as functioning optimally within your current environment – meaning physically, mentally and socially, but also the impact the environment around you has on your wellbeing.
